In this GIS fundamentals lab session, we focused on manipulating attribute data in ArcGIS, covering essential tasks such as selection by attribute, creating new fields, joining tables, and exporting results. Through practical exercises, students learned how to construct queries for selecting features based on specific attribute conditions, add and populate new fields in attribute tables, and join tables to facilitate combined analysis. The assignments provided an opportunity to apply these concepts, requiring students to identify counties with specific demographic characteristics and calculate and visualize cow density per square mile. By mastering these fundamental skills, students gained proficiency in managing attribute data within GIS, enabling them to conduct complex analyses and generate informative visualizations for spatial decision-making.
